FUTURE HISTORY

Massive Attack are currently back in the UK and completing work on their fifth studio album after touring for the majority of last year. They played the festival circuit as well as their own dates, including headline shows at Coachella, Wireless and the Hollywood Bowl. On a recent Iberian excursion they road-tested a new dark, uplifting song featuring Horace Andy.
Something special is planned from the band in July with the next album due shortly after that in October.
They've done two tracks with Tunde Adebimpe & Dave Sitek from TV On The Radio and will also be recording with Stephanie Dosen. Production duties are being handled in two parts, Robert Del naja and Neil Davige will work separately from Grant Marshall, has been working with Robot Club. Other contributing vocalists are thought to include Horace Andy, Damon Albarn, Elizabeth Fazer, Dot Allison, Hope Sandoval and Mike Patton. Intriguingly, Patti Smith and David Bowie have also been mentioned.
The title will not be Weather Underground as previously reported, though the abandoned name's reference to the radical US group the Weathermen is of a piece with some of the band's other activities. They've also benn working on the soundtrack for a new film called In Prison My Whole Life. They may release a track they've done with Snoop Dogg on a low-key vibe, in the way they did with I Against I. They've also done the soundtracks for two more documentaries - Battle In Seattle, which is about the WTO riots in 1999 and Trouble the Water, which looks at hurricane Katrina.
3D has provided the artrwork for the latest UNKLE project, War Stories, as well as contributing a track on the record called Twilight.

STILL WAITING....
The Future Proof video with 8 or 9 live tracks from the 100th Window tour on a disc with some new remixes of classic tracks. Also there is an Arabic acapella version of Live With Me, which may see the light of day at some point - Unlike a Nelle Hooper & Craig Armstrong remix of Hymn Of The Big Wheel, which didn't make the cut for inclusion on Collected.

3D was planning to do some work with Bristolian artist Banksy and already has some of his work for sale on Banksy's Pictures On Walls Site. As well as a planned radical update for www.massiveattack.co.uk, a new web site will be launched which will sell, amongst other things, one off art books, clothes and toys.

Two official Massive Attack books were in the pipeline, featuring pictures, words and data from the last year. These will include a biography, history, scrapbook, diary, lyrics, notes, photos and drawings. FITTING-IN is also to be reprinted at a more accessible price.

Mushroom's long forthcoming album had the working title of Champagne

BIOGRAPHY
Massive Attack began in 1988 as Bristol trio Grant Marshall (aka Daddy Gee), Robert del Naja (3D), and Andrew Vowles (Mushroom), famed for their pioneering role in the rise of trip-hop. Their debut album Blue Lines was released in 1991, followed by their 1994 album Protection to much acclaim and significant commercial success. These albums feature contributions from other key contemporary musicians - Horace Andy and Tracey Thorn, Nicolette and fellow Bristolian Tricky. There was a four year gap until their next release, Mezzanine, perceived to be rather darker and more abrasive than its predecessors. It was after this release that Mushroom quit the band. Massive Attack has contributed work to various soundtracks including Mission Impossible and Moulin Rouge and have collaborated with artists such as David Bowie and The Dandy Warhols. Their most recent album 100th Window, was released in February 2003.
